We’re so excited to be part of the “Dog Days of Summer: Pets of the Peninsula” exhibit at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum! This special exhibit celebrates the animals that have been part of the life on the Peninsula throughout the years and runs through October 31.

Be sure to stop by and see the original artworks created by our very own shelter dogs and cats! Each one-of-a-kind masterpiece was made by one of the special animals in our care.

We are gratefully accepting donations for these original works of art while they last. Every donation directly supports the South Pacific County Humane Society and helps provide food, shelter, medical care, and love to animals waiting for their forever homes.

Artist Statement: We met at the shelter when we all arrived around the same time with newborn kittens in tow. Inspiration for this piece came to us while discussing the joys of raising our kittens, and the happiness we feel that they were Mama’s Last Litter – we danced around the canvas!

South Pacific County Humane Society (SPCHS) is primarily a volunteer-driven organization.

Animal Care Technician (Part-Time)

Overview

Provides essential daily care for animals housed at SPCHS.
On the job training provided
Minimum 12 hrs a week, Up to 30hrs a week
Shifts begin at 7am and 4:45pm
Starting Wage $18.44/hr

Primary Responsibilities

• • • Feed, water, walk, bathe and handle  animals, including large dogs
    • Clean and sanitize kennels, work areas, and equipment
    • Monitor and support animal health and welfare
    • Dispense medication as directed
    • Transport animals to Oceanside Veterinary Hospital when directed
    • Support staff, volunteers, and the public as needed
    • Perform other duties as assigned

Expectations

• • • Punctual and dependable with regular attendance
    • Follow instructions/protocols
    • Complete required tasks efficiently, diligently and completely
    • Complete and timely communication of animal care issues
    • Available for early shifts, evening shifts, weekends, and holidays. 
    • Attend required training and meetings
    • Maintain a professional, courteous attitude; zero tolerance for aggressive or inappropriate behavior
    • Reliable transportation required to transport animals and pick up supplies as needed

Physical Requirements

• • • Able to handle animals safely and humanely
    • Frequently stand, walk, bend, and stoop
    • Lift up to 50 lbs alone or 100 lbs with assistance

Pre-Employment Requirements

• • • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
    • Verifiable references
    • Drug test and background check

Loud environment with potential for odors, scratches, bites, and exposure to feline and canine illnesses

Our dog walking team rocks!  If you’ve been in the neighborhood, you’ve surely seen these smiling people in safety vests giving our dogs some much-needed leg stretching.

We provide training in how to handle the dogs and what to watch for if a dog has any medical or training issues.

“A tired dog is a good dog!”

Well-exercised dogs have fewer behavior issues and are calmer when people come to meet them, which increases their adoptability.  Our dog walkers really make a difference!

TIME .  While we love it when people can make a regular weekly commitment, we welcome dog walkers with more occasional ability to help out.

South Pacific County Humane Society’s Shelter Front Desk is staffed by friendly volunteers who welcome visitors, answer phones, help screen adoption applications and provide general information and assistance.  Computer skills are required.
