Adoptions are by appointment only. For adoptions, please view our adoption process and available animals and submit an online adoption application.

Surrenders are based on shelter capacity. Please contact the shelter during open hours to be placed on our waitlist for surrenders.

Cat visits depend on volunteer availability. We will do our best to accommodate you depending on volunteer availability.

Dog visits require an appointment and approved application. Please view our available dogs and submit an online adoption application.

Pet food and community/feral cat spay/neuter vouchers are available during open hours.

Low-income spay/neuter vouchers are given out on Tuesdays and Saturdays only and are very limited in quantity.

Meet Zoomie Ziggy and Handsome Bruno!

Two years ago, Ziggy was born under the zoomiest star in the sky. Ever since, everything Ziggy sees, he’ll draw into his endless games. Toys? Play. Other dogs? Play. People: Please please PLEASE, play!

At 30 pounds, Ziggy is perfect travel-sized — which is great, because even more than a friend to play with, Ziggy would thrive with a coach. No hiding away for this spectacularly handsome tabby boy— three-and-a-half-year-old Bruno loves being around people too much!

Ever curious and thoughtful, Bruno is a big personality in a 12 pound body, and probably at least 4 of those are from his brain alone! Always exploring his world, Bruno is uncommonly clever. This makes him a cat with strong opinions—for example, he does not appreciate being picked up—but also boundless possibilities, especially as he loves treats and may be very trainable. He would give anything for a family to join his investigations, delight in his discoveries, and fill his world with love!

Bruno is FELV positive, and with regular vet visits and an indoor-only, he’ll live a long and happy life. He needs a home where he is either the only cat or other cats are also FELV positive.

It is easy to become a volunteer.

STEP 1:

Read through our

SPCHS Volunteer Handbook

STEP 2:

Complete and submit the

Volunteer Information Sheet and Acknowledgement Form

STEP 3:

Once we have received your form, one of our experienced volunteers will contact you to schedule your orientation & training.

Our dog walking team rocks! If you’ve been in the neighborhood, you’ve surely seen these smiling people in safety vests giving our dogs some much-needed leg stretching.

We provide training in how to handle the dogs and what to watch for if a dog has any medical or training issues.

“A tired dog is a good dog!”

Well-exercised dogs have fewer behavior issues and are calmer when people come to meet them, which increases their adoptability. Our dog walkers really make a difference!

TIME . While we love it when people can make a regular weekly commitment, we welcome dog walkers with more occasional ability to help out.

Wanted: Front Desk Volunteers

South Pacific County Humane Society’s Shelter Front Desk is staffed by friendly volunteers who welcome visitors, answer phones, help screen adoption applications and provide general information and assistance. Computer skills are required.

TIME . Front Desk volunteers are scheduled for a minimum of 2 1/2 to 5 hours once a week.
