Adoptions are by appointment only.  For adoptions, please view our adoption process and available animals and submit an online adoption application.

Surrenders are based on shelter capacity.  Please contact the shelter during open hours to be placed on our waitlist for surrenders.

Cat visits depend on volunteer availability. We will do our best to accommodate you depending on volunteer availability.

Dog visits require an appointment and approved application. Please view our available dogs and submit an online adoption application.

Pet food and community/feral cat spay/neuter vouchers are available during open hours.

Low-income spay/neuter vouchers are given out on Tuesdays and Saturdays only and are very limited in quantity.

Meet Gentle Kaylani and Dapper Tate!

Meet Kaylani: Your Future Soul Dog
 
One look into Kaylani’s warm brown eyes, and you’ll realize what love really is.
 
Five years old and 71 pounds, this gentle hound hasn’t always had an easy life. Kaylani came to the shelter with health challenges, but with care, is back in top form. But through her struggles, Kaylani’s true nature revealed itself: an incredibly sweet soul that touches the hearts of all she meets.
 
This soft-hearted girl currently lives in a foster home, where she’s displayed excellent manners: crate-trained, leash-trained, and without any house-training issues. Calm and quiet, Kaylani rarely barks, and readily takes kind correction.
 
More than anything, Kaylani’s dearest wish is to become one of those once-in-a-lifetime canines that never leaves your heart. She adores being close to her humans and included in their daily lives, a true member of the family. And if you want to really delight her, all you need to do is take her on a walk, or even just pop outside with a ball – this snuggly girl loves to rollick around and would be thrilled with a yard of her own!

With his handsome shorthair coat and long white whiskers, this stylish youth may seem reserved at first – but that’s only until you’ve spent a bit of time in his distinguished company. After some cordial get-to-know-yous, his true personality comes to light: a tremendously curious boy that loves affection and play.
 
Tate craves a family worthy of his greatness but he doesn’t demand a lavish manor. All he needs is a home with love to lavish him with praise and pets, and to stand in awe of his excellent toy-hunting abilities, and maybe offer a lounging spot by a big window to watch the world outside. And if there perhaps were a feline sibling in his future, Tate would be a wonderful companion (with proper introductions, of course, as any gentleman expects!).

Our dog walking team rocks!  If you’ve been in the neighborhood, you’ve surely seen these smiling people in safety vests giving our dogs some much-needed leg stretching.

We provide training in how to handle the dogs and what to watch for if a dog has any medical or training issues.

“A tired dog is a good dog!”

Well-exercised dogs have fewer behavior issues and are calmer when people come to meet them, which increases their adoptability.  Our dog walkers really make a difference!

TIME .  While we love it when people can make a regular weekly commitment, we welcome dog walkers with more occasional ability to help out.

South Pacific County Humane Society’s Shelter Front Desk is staffed by friendly volunteers who welcome visitors, answer phones, help screen adoption applications and provide general information and assistance.  Computer skills are required.

TIME .  Front Desk volunteers are scheduled for a minimum of 2 1/2 to  5 hours once a week.
