Ways YOU can help

Volunteer

It is only through volunteers that we are able to exist and help animals in need. Volunteers are the shelter.

We are so grateful for every gift of time and energy! Shelter volunteers to see to the well-being of those that cannot take care of themselves.

We have many volunteer opportunities, in and out of the Shelter facility. We currently have the highest need in the following areas.

  • Fundraising Committee
  • On-call Foster Parents for puppies and kittens
  • On-call Foster Parents for sick or injured animals

You might also volunteer your time to bathe and groom the animals, walk dogs, or play with cats. Give us a call with your great idea or to see how you can help. Join the fundraising committee and help with one of our projects & events or do other ‘behind the scenes’ work. Call the shelter to get involved (360-642-1180) or email a Board Member. Kennel Plaque Sponsorship

When you sponsor a kennel, you help us to offer second chances to dogs or cats, providing them with food, shelter, and medical care until we are able to adopt them into permanent, loving homes.

When you become a sponsor, a personalized, engraved plaque is placed on your choice of either a dog or a cat kennel for one year. Plaques can be personalized in your name, your company’s name, or in memory of a beloved family member, special friend or cherished pet.

You’ll have the pride of knowing that you are supporting a local, effective non-profit, no-kill organization that protects and cares for over 650 homeless animals annually and visitors to our shelter will see your support. Of course, your gift is tax-deductible.

A limited number of kennels are available for sponsorship, so reserve yours now!

Sponsor a Dog or Cat

Help a pet find a new home by sponsoring an adoption! Costs vary; up to $40 for cats and $60 for dogs. To sponsor, simply send the shelter a check, noting the funds are for sponsorship (PO Box 101, Long Beach, WA 98631). Or, stop by the shelter to meet a specific pet to sponsor: 330 Second St. NE, Long Beach, WA 98631. Be sure to tell us if you’d like an update when Fido or Fluffy finds their forever home.

Recycle Printer Cartridges, Used Cell Phones, Laptops & PDAs

As you may know, the South Pacific County Humane Society is funded entirely by private donations, so we are always looking for new ways to raise money for our animals. One of our newer projects is a collaboration with Cartridges for Kids, an organization that recycles empty inkjet and laser cartridges, used cell phones, laptops, and PDAs (Palm Pilots). The money that comes in to the Shelter is of course greatly appreciated and much needed; an extra benefit is doing something constructive for the environment by preventing these items and their often-toxic components from reaching landfills.

We would like to encourage individuals as well as businesses to collect these recyclables. There are several ways of getting the recyclables to us. You may bring them directly to the Shelter at 330 2nd St. NE in Long Beach. Or you may drop them off on the patio at Shakti Cove Cottages at 253rd and Park Avenue in Ocean Park. If you would like to claim your contributions as a tax deduction, please be sure your name and address are clearly visible so we can get you a receipt.

Donations

Donations of pet food, kitty litter and of course monetary donations are always in critical need. Please call (360-642-1180) to see what we need most at the time you want to make a donation, or check our wish list.

Perhaps you’d like to make a memorial donation in honor of a pet, friend, or relative? Your donation is a gift that can make a difference. memorial_donation.pdf

Our Treasurer and/or Director of Financial Planning would be happy to assist in setting up an endowment or trust. roger@beachpets.com or jane@beachpets.com.

Donate a Kuranda Bed to our Shelter http://www.kuranda.com

Every dollar you donate goes directly to support such vital programs as veterinary care for sick and injured animals, animal foster care, spaying and neutering. These programs exceed the basic care of the animals and save precious lives
