I want to compliment the dedicated SPCHS Volunteer Board of Directors and Executive Director Jeannette Sterling for their service to the animals and the community. As a former Board member to several community organizations, I know how difficult and time-consuming community service responsibilities can be in the best of times.

This unselfish group of people should receive a gold medal for continuting to work for the animals despite the efforts of a small group of community members who unfairly criticize and, it appears, are trying to reduce community fundraising for the shelter.

As I read the negative articles, letters, questions and comments in the Chinook Observer and on the beachpets.com website , I find it difficult to understand why a small group of naysayers could think their actions are "helping the animals". In my opinion, their energy could be better spent educating themselves on the legal requirements of operating a non- profit and volunteering their time to raise funds for the shelter or attending board meeting to quietly listen and learn.

I am impressed by the Board's decision to hire Jeanette, whose resume shows her excellent qualifications. Jeannette's career path has focused on developing the experience required to be able to meet the background requirements needed to effectively perform the necessary duties of the SPCHS Executive Director. Her experience, education and extensive background in animal services have well prepared her for any position in the organization.

I met Jeannette last year and also feel that she very genuinely aspires to work with integrity, humility, and a strong understanding of community and animal needs. She impressed me with her level of preparation and long-term focus to best assume the responsibilities of this position.

I appreciate the Q&A posts on the beachpets.com website. It is clear the SPCHS Board is not hiding their actions from the public. They are spending many hours responding to naysayers in an attempt to be open and honest within the law.

In conclusion, I would like to strongly suggest community members who care about pets join me in supporting the mission and vision of SPCHS and its animals, shelter volunteers, shelter staff and the volunteer board members with time and money.
