Adoption Update Flame Point

Hi everyone who loved our cat & kitten before we did…
The flame point and tabby kitten are doing great! My daughter and I did
some shopping today and bought a little “wavy condo w/ scratching pad” and
the kitten loves to tuck inside.
The silly flame point (we haven’t decided on names yet) keeps getting into
the pet carrier we bought! And we know from the ride home that he really
doesn’t like to travel, so not sure what’s up with that! =)
We just couldn’t resist the velvety soft Petmate bed, and the flame point
is cuddled up in it right now. He keeps hinting that he wants to go
outside, but we keep saying sorry fella… you’re an indoor cat. He was
very pleased today when we brought the outside indoors with a cut
Christmas tree.
The two get along famously… the little guy was cuddled up to and
cleaning big guy’s face earlier… They even share the moist food, trading
back & forth on each side of the double dish.
We are giving and receiving love from these two critters, and we look
forward to a long and loving relationship.
Thank you for all you do for the pets on the peninsula!

I wanted to send you some photos of Montana (Sophie). She is a wonderful
dog. She enjoys her walks and loves attention. She spent the day at school
with me, and my fourth graders loved her. Her sister Rubie is getting used
to her. (Rubie is rather jealous) They are both starting obedience classes
after Christmas.
God bless

Meet Swedgin! He was born in June of 2010 and was part of a litter that was abandoned by his human family. Swedgin was adopted from the Shelter in August. His new family reports that when he was brought home, he acted like he belonged there immediately. He is a happy, playful and lively kitten who has found his “forever” home.

Hello -
Just wanted to give you an update on Jasmine who we adopted from the shelter this weekend. She is doing great! She is settling into the house just fine and greatly enjoys playing in the yard with her new brother. Yesterday we took her to the dog park where she played very well with the other dogs and burned off a lot of energy.
Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt her. She is going to be a great companion for hopefully many years to come.

Hanna Update

Hannah (the one with the silver muzzle in the picture) made it home with us safe and sound. She thinks that the doggie toy basket is great! Here is Hannah and Mysti in the kitchen watching Dave
check on dinner. She likes the back yard with room to run. She is not too sure about going out the dog door yet, but has no problem coming inside. I am sure that she will learn over the next few days.

Thank you very much for telling us about Gracie/Hannah I think that we all will be very happy. She will get her bath and possibly her nails trimmed if she is not too stressed out after the bath time with mom. Then we will see how she likes the dog park near our house. Not many know about the dog park so we normally have it all to ourselves.:0)
Thank again!!

The Latest News on Hanna October 2010
It has been about a month since we brought Hannah/Gracie home with us. She is doing very well!
Loves her walks each day…. in fact she demands it! Yes I can now walk 3 Golden girls at once. They are so good…. well there was that squirrel that ran near us that made for some excitement! Thought for a second I was going to slide down the street. lol We walk even if it is raining! I have 2 yellow rain coats for the dogs but I need to buy a 3rd so she is not the odd dog out. :0) My husband won’t walk with us when we have our rain coats on…. Wonder why? ha ha ha!
After taking her to the doctors they discovered that she had a staph infection along with the ear infection. She is acting like a young pup now that she feels so much better after treatment. Her coat is looking better all the time and we are still working on letting mom trim the nails.
We will be taking her on a camping trip for the weekend. Good thing we have a trailer. I don’t think I could handle 3 dogs in my tent! I will send pictures soon of this adventure.
We will try plan a trip out your way to visit this spring.
Thanks again for telling me about Hannah she is such a funny girl and our family just loves her!

Libby Loves Her Forever Home

Today our kids were marveling at how it hasn’t even been two months since we met Libby and they can’t imagine life without her. That made me realize that it was time to send you an update! Libby is doing wonderfully and she makes us all so happy. Her warmth just fills our home with smiles.
The first picture is Libby sitting by the front door after the unbelievable heartbreak of our three older kids leaving home for a couple of hours without taking her.
The second picture is “The Sisters of Chaos” duo. Lucy spends much of the day calling out, “Come, Lib! Come Lib! Follow me!” as they run through the house. When Lucy’s bedtime finally arrives the first thing Libby does is climb up on the couch and sleep for an hour. She is always so patient and gentle with Lucy throughout the whole day, but she’s worn out and ready for a nap by evening. They have a cute relationship. It will be fun to watch them grow up together.
The third picture is Riley cuddling with his best running buddy. When Riley reaches for his running shoes Libby knows to be ready for a good jog around the neighborhood. Those two will keep each other in shape! We just got her a reflective leash and a flashing collar light for the dark winter months that will be here soon.
Libby did wonderfully recently on an extended-family camping trip. There were about 10 families with lots of kids and other dogs. Everyone was in love with Libby by the time we came back home. She fits in really well with everyone.
The remaining pictures are from another recent camping trip. Libby with her beloved green ball, in a daze from being brushed, “helping” with a jigsaw puzzle, and walking with her favorite alpha guy. She really loves Kim and recognizes him as the leader of our pack. We think she transferred her respect and love for her trainers to Kim because they made such a great impression on her. They really taught her what it meant to be a part of a family. We are thankful to them for shaping her into such a great house dog.
Thanks,
Jan
Tala (aka Trinket) Is HOME.

We had the pleasure of adopting a black lab from you on August 8, 2010. Her name was Trinket or Lucy and it has since been changed to Tala which she has embraced well.
I just wanted to write and thank you for the pleasant experience we had with this entire process. We found Tala via the online web page Petfinder.com and were interested in seeing her. You allowed us to come for a visit and have the kids play with her in the yard. It felt like she was a good match for us right away, and it seems she feels the same back.
She was adopted and came home with us to Aberdeen that evening. At her first vet appointment she did very well and they were impressed with her and stated she has a wonderful temperament. They felt she had already bonded well to us as when they took her out of the room and she heard our voices, she just wanted them to bring her back to us. That made us smile.
We have had her for 2 weeks now and she has been so much fun! With a family of 5 this is a very busy house and she gets tons of attention.
Tala has enjoyed the sunny weather and has enjoyed cooling off with a good game of “fetch” in the swimming pool. What a great water dog she is! She already obeys the “sit” command and when told to go to her crate she obeys very well. Tala has alot of energy and she starts her training classes this evening. We are so excited! She is very smart and has a great desire to learn tricks and please her owners.
Thanks again for allowing us the pleasure of adopting such a great dog. We will keep you updated on her progress.
Sincerely,
Shonna

Since we do not know her name for sure, we are going to call her Molly…she is so sweet and gentle..We came home and she had a bath and I brushed her..she loves being brushed, which looks like she was used to being groomed…what a doll…thank you for all of your help and support. ~Karen

Here is the latest update Molly, a week later…she is doing very well…eating good and is a good little walker…she is in some training on her walks however. I don’t know if she went on very many walks, and likes to dart after squirls, etc…so we are working on our social walking skills…other than that she is a perfect companion…
Enjoy the new picture.
Update from 8/24
Molly is doing so well…she loves to lay on the porch, watch for cats, chase and bark at them…I wanted you to see her with her healing coat…you would have to know that she had that big black spot on her right hip…her hair is really filling in…

I hope that you are all enjoying your summer. God bless you for your kindness and work..
Kathy
Greetings, just a little updated picture of Molly (Honey) heading out for a little walk in the rain…enjoy..

What a fantastic dog. Please pass on to [the foster family] what a great job they did. [Allie] has even made Bella better on walks!
She has easily integrated into our family and follows me around “like a puppy.” She seems very happy and is no longer skittish.
We absolutely love her and appreciate her uniqueness. It is a joy to have her!
I have attached two cell phone pics that aren’t the best, but my husband has the good camera–and he is due home any minute!
Thanks again for what you do. I have talked up your program everywhere I can.
I’ll keep you guys updated.

Libby Update

Libby is a dog that was chosen, from SPCHS, for the Prison Dogs program. She was exercised, trained, and socialized in the program and now is enjoying her new home! Here’s an update from her forever family:
Libby loves a good belly rub! This week she got a check up at our vet’s office and she got her microchip, which was a relief to get accomplished. Libby has been so good with our cats. They are learning that she really isn’t as threatening as she looks. Often she will just curiously watch them walk by without moving. She’s very polite.
Libby meeting new friends on her first trip to our local dog park.
It was crowded in the main off leash play area so we kept her on leash in the quieter part of the park for her first trip.
Look at that perfect heel!
This was Father’s Day. We found this funny t-shirt on-line. It seemed perfect since Libby is so well known and loved at SCCC!
Our daughter was going on a trip for four days. She was saying good-bye to Libby.
This was the happy reunion when our son returned from a long weekend away from home. Whenever he picks Libby up she looks perplexed. “Why am I suddenly five feet taller?” She is such a sweetheart and she has brought a lot of warmth and happiness to our home. We often laugh about how Libby is such a graceful and gentle lady, but she snores like a grown man! : )
Adoption Update

Just a brief note to tell you how well June (now Calypso Caliente) and Noki
(now Tolliver) are doing. I adopted them on St. Patrick’s Day weekend this
year. Last year, Memorial Day weekend, I adopted the shelter’s Siamese mix
kitten, Squirt (now Finn.) (I also had a hoot that weekend at the shelter’s
and many other folks’ garage sales. I’ve told a lot of people about the fun
of seeing neat stuff at almost every home in every block in Long Beach.)
The great thing about my little cat colony is how sweet they all are
together. Each is a definite personality, but the mix works well. They
cuddle and groom each other in different pairs. Calli, the only
featherweight in the crew (and my only female), trills a lot in conversation
with us all. She particularly adores our dog. When she cuddles up with him,
she’s pretty much enveloped, but he’s gentle and she acts like it’s pure
bliss. When she’s especially happy (mealtime), she stands on her hind legs
so that she can nuzzle his face- she then strolls back and forth rubbing his
chest before she stands up to rub his muzzle again. She is an amazing, happy
little bundle.
Tolly loves being held and also likes having his long fur brushed.
He’s usually the first to sprawl on me when I put my feet up to read or
watch TV. His own feet are still way bigger than the rest of him so I’m sure
he’ll be pretty big as an adult. He’s not keen on having his nails trimmed,
but we’re working on that with treats.
Thanks again for the loan of the travel crate- I’ll return it before too
much time passes. And thanks for having such sweet, easy going kittens for
me to bring home. Hats off to you all!
Regards,
D.
Update on Henery

I just wanted to share another pic of Henry with Moses that I took recently when we went hiking. It was a lot of fun, Henry would freeze and point whenever he saw a waterfall thru the trees. But he disliked the creek crossings. You’ll note that Henry, being the youngest of all of us, is wearing the backpack. –Sarah

The dogs are not posing very well, but Zip does tolerate Baily. I can’t find the pictures but Maggie, our Golden Retriever they do play together which is quite the sight. Maggie is so big but the puppies just love her. Baily and daughter’s pup, Boggers and the others are the right size but are not real players. Baily loves to get away to chase her but she just shoos her away and comes back to me. Then it starts all over again until nap time when they all cuddle together for a snooze. Thanks again for Zip and Baily. They have both added to our lives.
