Several of our volunteers teamed up to create and man a booth at Saturday’s Community Disaster Preparedness Fair. Thanks to Wendy, Marie, Merry, Jane, Rod, Ruth, Steven, Dee & Keleigh and, most of all, to Gypsy. What would an SPCHS booth be without a well-mannered mascot?!

George (aka Cinders) Update

Here are pictures of “Cinders” who I renamed, George. He has settled in very nicely and as you’ll see has become quite attached to Lily. There is never a dull moment with those two. He is starting to get a little more white on his back, other than that, not a lot of changes.
I will keep the pictures coming as he matures. He is truly a “unique” cat in color and in personality.
Thank you………………..
Lisa

News flash! We can actually say that handsome Bailey is a purebred lab!

We are always very careful not to list any of our dog residents as “purebred” anything, even though they often look to be very true to their main breed type. We get a lot of “mystery mixes”, but in Bailey’s case we know he is purebred black lab because we have his AKC papers.
Bailey is just under 5 years old, fully up to date on his vaccinations, is microchipped, and is a very well behaved boy. He knows how to sit, shake, and come, is housetrained and loves to play ball. He would love an active, outdoor oriented owner who could take him hiking and swimming- his other main passions in life.
He is not destructive in the house, and is used to being around older kids and adults, but apparently small children can make him nervous.
As is also true with a lot of labs, Bailey loves tennis balls, and he will come with his own supply of tennis balls when adopted. He has been with us since August, and being in a cage is definitely starting to wear on this active, playful dog.
If you are looking for a great dog, then look no further- come and meet Bailey today and give him a new start on life!
Fond of ferrets? We are expecting a nice couple in this week
By mid –week, we are expecting to receive a couple of pet ferrets in at the shelter- released by their owners who had to move. Apparently, there is a boy and a girl; both are altered and up to date on their vaccinations.
So, if you are interested in adopting these cute little critters, call our Manager Diana during usual shelter animals or stop and meet them in person.
Funny Parrot Joke

A lady was walking down the street to work and she saw a parrot on a perch in front of a pet store.
The parrot said to her, “Hey lady, you are really ugly.” Well, needless to say the lady was furious!
She stormed past the store to her work.
On the way home she saw the same parrot and it said to her, “Hey lady, you are really ugly.” She was incredibly angry by now.
The next day the same parrot again said to her, “Hey lady, you are really ugly.”
The lady was so angered and upset she went into the store and warned she would sue the store, purchase the bird and kill it. The store manager profusely promised he would make sure the parrot didn’t say it again.
When the lady walked past the store the next day the parrot called to her, “Hey lady.”
She paused and said,”Yes?”
The bird said, “You know.”

Sweet molly would love to be your “easy-keeper”
A lot of people who have had the pleasure of having labs as their loyal companions would be the first to tell you that these guys are slow to grow up. General rule of thumb among lab aficionados is that their dogs seemed to finally reach adulthood at about age 5- before that time, these great family dogs can be prone to lapses into puppy behavior and goofy antics.
This is why a little older retriever like six year old “Molly” can be such a wonderful adoption option for those looking for a lab young enough to still have the spirit of adventure, and yet old enough to know not to eat the couch…
True to her breed, Molly has never met a stranger, is easygoing, and very anxious to please. She is a gentle dog that loves to go for walks, is spayed, housetrained, and would love to be a family dog, or a single person’s best friend.
Molly is generally good with other dogs, and most likely could make a friendly companion for another dog –friendly canine. She has been with us now for several weeks, and you can see in her big brown eyes just how badly she wants to belong to someone and to have a loving home. Please come and meet Molly and help her make her dream come true.

Hanna Update

Hannah (the one with the silver muzzle in the picture) made it home with us safe and sound. She thinks that the doggie toy basket is great! Here is Hannah and Mysti in the kitchen watching Dave
check on dinner. She likes the back yard with room to run. She is not too sure about going out the dog door yet, but has no problem coming inside. I am sure that she will learn over the next few days.

Thank you very much for telling us about Gracie/Hannah I think that we all will be very happy. She will get her bath and possibly her nails trimmed if she is not too stressed out after the bath time with mom. Then we will see how she likes the dog park near our house. Not many know about the dog park so we normally have it all to ourselves.:0)
Thank again!!

The Latest News on Hanna October 2010
It has been about a month since we brought Hannah/Gracie home with us. She is doing very well!
Loves her walks each day…. in fact she demands it! Yes I can now walk 3 Golden girls at once. They are so good…. well there was that squirrel that ran near us that made for some excitement! Thought for a second I was going to slide down the street. lol We walk even if it is raining! I have 2 yellow rain coats for the dogs but I need to buy a 3rd so she is not the odd dog out. :0) My husband won’t walk with us when we have our rain coats on…. Wonder why? ha ha ha!
After taking her to the doctors they discovered that she had a staph infection along with the ear infection. She is acting like a young pup now that she feels so much better after treatment. Her coat is looking better all the time and we are still working on letting mom trim the nails.
We will be taking her on a camping trip for the weekend. Good thing we have a trailer. I don’t think I could handle 3 dogs in my tent! I will send pictures soon of this adventure.
We will try plan a trip out your way to visit this spring.
Thanks again for telling me about Hannah she is such a funny girl and our family just loves her!
