10 Reasons why your dog’s haircut cost more than yours!

10 Reasons why your dog’s haircut cost more than yours!

You don’t go for 8 weeks and NEVER wash or brush your hair.

Your hairdresser doesn’t have to CARRY you back and forth, kicking and screaming to the sink.

Your hairdresser doesn’t wash and clean your rear end and give you a sanitary trim!

Your hairdresser doesn’t clean your ears!

Your hairdresser doesn’t have to remove the boogies from your eyes. You sit still.

You don’t bite & scratch your hairdresser.

Your hair cut doesn’t include a manicure and pedicure.

Your hairdresser only washes and cuts hair on your head!

You don’t decide to do an Operatic Solo at the top of your lungs and encourage all other patrons to join in!

The likelihood of you peeing or pooping while your hair is being cut is slim.

A BIG THANKS to Jim and Joanne HubalJim and Joanne Hubal, who visited our Shelter recently:

We wanted to let you know the photos we took at the shelter when we visited in October have been added to AmericaHelpsAnimals.com …We feel your shelter is a model of positive, creative thinking and appreciate being able to visit.

We also sent you a box of our beach books, A Week at the Beach, a few weeks ago. We hope you can sell them to raise money for the shelter, or as an incentive if someone adopts.

Thanks again for the tour and all you do for animals.

Jim and Joanne Hubal

Their book, A Week at the Beach: 100 Life-Changing Things You Can Do by the Seashore is available through Amazon.com, but if you purchase it at our Shelter, we get the proceeds because the Hubers have also donated a box of their books to us.  Thanks, Jim & Joanne!

Henry Update

We have had Henry almost a month now and he is still such a wonderful delight! He takes turns sleeping in everyone’s beds at night and plays all day with Lilly and the girls.

About two weeks ago we had a spike of break-ins to neighbors cars and one attempt at a house. No one has even tried with any of our property. We feel so much better safety wise having a male dog here to protect us.

He goes with us every once in a while to pick Lilly up or take her to school. He likes that!

Today we decorated for Christmas and his reactions are so cute! He doesn’t seem to have any idea what a tree is doing in the house, let alone singing lights on the tree.

Thank you again for such a wonderful part of our family!!!!

Penny (Sadie) Update

Filed under Announcements, Updates on Adopteds

Just wanted to let you know that Penny (Sadie) is doing fantastic!  She crated so well in the car, it was obvious she knew and liked the routine and safe feeling.  We did a couple of potty stops and again she did well, got exercise did her business, etc and was ready to get home.

Once we got home, she was very excited and explored the yard and the house (on leash of course).  She has the mud/laundry room for now.  It is large, bright and light and puppy proofed, baby gate at door.  She can see us in the kitchen and living room, however we spend a lot of our time in there with her.  Her crate is in there.  I laid down her blanket and put 4 new soft toys on it.  Filled her water bowl and mixed purina food with the puppy Iams.  She went right to the blanket and played with her new toys and laid down.  Then got water, and more water.  Then she tried to eat. She did not like the purina food and tried spitting out only those kibbles, lol.  We spent the next half hour picking out each and every bad kibble and hand fed her the good ones.  She liked that, lol.

She has the best personality and we have fallen in love with her!  I got a bandana and folded it in my lap.  She laid her head down on it and nudged me to put it on her.  I did and she pranced around showing it off to us.  She is so comfortable, acts like she has been here her whole life.  Did I mention her good manners?  For a 7 month old puppy she sure knows a lot and learns quickly.  She knows her new name:  Sadie.

Thank you so much!  We adore her!  I’ll send photos when I get my digital camera back.

Dangerous People Foods

This list is a resource to help keep your dog safe this holiday season, but be aware that it is not exhaustive. Many other human foods can be harmful to your dog, and depending on your dog’s particular medical background, any deviation from his regular diet can cause serious health issues. Consult your veterinarian for guidelines specific to your pet.

If you suspect that your dog may have ingested one of these foods or another harmful substance, call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center National Hotline: 888-426-4435.

Alcoholic beverages
Avocado
Caffeinated tea
Chocolate (all forms)
Cigarettes and other nicotine products
Coffee (all forms)
Fatty foods
Garlic
Macadamia nuts
Moldy or spoiled foods
Onions, onion powder
Pain relievers
Raisins and grapes
Salt
Yeast dough
Products sweetened with xylitol (such as chewing gum, breath mints, and even some “sugar free” baked goods)
Turkey Skin – High fat foods, such as turkey skin, can be hazardous to your dog. Since the skin is hard to digest, it can lead to pancreatitis. If you still want to share your bird, give your dog a small piece of white meat.
Turkey Bones – Cooked poultry bones are brittle and splinter easily. If ingested, they can lodge in the esophagus or cause stomach or intestinal irritation.
