This past weekend out summer-long Raffle came to an end for 2009. A final accounting will be posted in a couple weeks but our gross is over $11,700.
The following is a thank you letter sent to the Chinook Observer for inclusion in next weeks paper.
The Board of the South Pacific County Humane Society would like to thank the many supporters of our annual “Big Raffle” for their generous donations to benefit our No-kill Animal Shelter.
We raised over $11,700 for our general fund in ticket sales and donations during our 2009 Big Raffle. We couldn’t have done it without the dedicated help of prize donations and ticket sellers.
The drawing was held at the Shelter Saturday, November 7th, and was attended by many supporters. Wendy Murry designed a Cat Raffle Ticket box. Royce and Avary Murry, children of Del and Wendy Murry, dug deep into the box to draw the winning tickets. Rod Vetter emceed, Bonnie Teschner Carey recorded the winners and Keith and Keleigh Schwartz snapped photos.
We were fortunate to have generous prizes donated by the community. Jane Holeman wrote a grant letter for Southwest Share The Spirit -Two Round-Trip Tickets anywhere Southwest Airlines Flies. Keleigh Schwartz arranged for the Two Round-Trip Tickets anywhere Seaport Airlines Flies, and Diana Galbreath donated one week of Pet Boarding at SPCHS. Rod and Verna Vetter donated a framed original Charles Mulvey Painting, “The Beach Runners”, signed and dated (1999) by the renowned late artist. Harriet Cavalli donated a one-night stay at pet-friendly Shakti Cove Cottages in Ocean Park. Information and tickets to Peninsula Museums & Interpretive Centers were donated by the following groups: Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum, World Kite Museum, Cranberry Museum, Marsh’s Museum, Willapa Bay Interpretive Center and Knappton Cove Heritage Center/Columbia River Quarantine Station. Long Beach’s Neptune Theater donated six movie tickets, Full Circle Cafe in Ocean Park donated a breakfast for two, and Coastal Candies in Long Beach donated treats and breakfast at The Dog House in Long Beach, and a buy one – get one free coupon was given by Benson’s By The Beach in Long Beach. Winners will also enjoy dinner at the 42nd Street Café in Seaview. Board member Michelle Zinkevicz contacted Wyoming artist Angi Harper who custom-made a Cat Necklace, a beautiful Tall Ship Cut Glass Art was hand-made and donated by Long Beach artist Rena. Del Kurtz of Ocean Park donated a Spa Gift Set. Warren Groscost from Orting, Washington, is a 71 -year-old retired office machine repairman, and donated a beautiful hand-turned Maple Bowl. Anonymous donors provided a Fit Watch 10M strapless Heart Rate Monitor from Reebok and Five Beanie Babies. A copy of the Leg Lamp from the movie “The Christmas Story” was donated by Jane Holeman, and Alesa Andrew, one of our most faithful and generous Shelter volunteers, handmade a “kitty” quilt.
A special thanks to ticket sellers Harriet Cavalli and the Jack’s Team: Alesa Andrew, Sheryl Wren, Bobbie Hester, Bobbie Huss, Vivian Wattum, Susan Spence, Suzie Heimbuch, Betty Johnson, Shirley Burt, Charlene Hadfield, Dee Waluk-Johnson, Jane Holeman, Michelle Zinkevicz, Marie Maulden & Laurel Kirsch sold a total of 943 tickets by sitting outside Jack’s County Store in Ocean Park weekends all summer. Thanks, Bonnie, for that report and mostly for listing everyone who deserved a big THANK YOU!
Many people don’t realize how expensive it is to run a no-kill shelter; our monthly expenses are in excess of $10,000.00. It takes fundraisers like the raffle and every single donation that comes through the door or mail to keep our doors open.
We are SO grateful to our Humane Society Community for making that happen!
