More than $4,500 in prizes were awarded to lucky ticket holders on Saturday in our BIG RAFFLE. The raffle draw took place at here at our 100% community-supported shelter in Long Beach, marking the end of our 7th annual fundraiser.

Present at the drawing were many of the volunteers who have been a presence in the community throughout the summer, sharing information about the organization and selling $2 tickets.
“Our volunteers are an amazing and dedicated bunch” noted Raffle Coordinator Bonnie Carey. “A couple of dozen people are responsible for over 90% of the ticket sales, raising much-needed funds for the organization’s general fund.”
SPCHS Board Vice President Rod Vetter, had the rewarding task of calling out the raffle winners and was thrilled to be assisted by the charming Royce and Avary Murry, who showcased prizes and dug deep to draw the winning ticket for each prize. Winners included peninsula residents and visitors as far away as Texas.
“We had great donations this year” Vetter said. “It was the SouthWest and SeaPort Airline tickets that got the attention of people who I don’t think would have bought tickets otherwise.”
Also included in the winnings was pet boarding at the shelter, an original matted and framed Charles Mulvey watercolor, a vacation package including lodging at Shakti Cove Cottages and dining at the 42nd Street Café, along with tickets to the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum, World Kite Museum, Cranberry Museum, Marsh’s Museum, Willapa Bay Interpretive Center, Knappton Cove Heritage Center/Columbia River Quarantine Station. Wyoming artist Angi Harper donated a custom cat-themed necklace, Orting artist Warren Groscost crafted a wood bowl with walnut shell inlay, and local artist Rena crafted a tall ship in stained glass for the event. Additional prizes included a heart rate monitor watch, an “A Christmas Story” lamp, a huge spa basket and a beautiful, hand-crafted quilt made by shelter volunteer Alesa Andrew.
All proceeds benefit the South Pacific County Humane Society which protects and cares for the area’s stray, abused and abandoned animals.
