The orangutan was in a rescue and not doing well. This old hound wandered in absolutely emaciated and the orangutan snapped to, like his buddy had arrived. He stayed with the hound night and day until he was well and in the whole scenario, found a reason to live. They are now inseparable. Isn’t that sweet?

Sweet Lulu and her charming pups- the best of the long and short of it !
We received this devoted mom dog and her five pups late last week. Apparently, the family that had them fell on hard times and could no longer care for them. Sad for the family, but good news for folks looking for very nice dogs!
Lulu is a Basset Hound mix- long body and shorter legs. Apparently her “suitors” were several different traveling sales dogs in the neighborhood, for her pups, while they share her body type, are all different colors. Some have a little bit longer legs, but it is doubtful that they will ever be called “leggy”.
All five of the pups are roly-poly, sturdy, healthy boys- line backers of the puppy world, no doubt! Mom Lulu has a wonderfully mellow and affectionate personality, and it appears she has passed on not only her genes, but her great disposition. She and the pups like nothing better than human attention, and should make very good family dogs.
These cute “low riders” should find good homes quickly, so if you are interested in adding a sweet canine addition to your family, come see them today!
Tommy is still looking out the window- hoping…
This handsome young orange and white guy now officially has the dubious distinction of being the shelter’s longest feline resident- he has been with us since February. He has spent day after day longingly looking out the window of the kitty playroom, just hoping a kind person would come along and give him a home.
Tommy will sometimes give visitors to the playroom a playful swat, but he isn’t mean, just lonesome and mischevious . He is trying to get someone’s attention in the only way he knows how. He would love a home where he could be both indoors and out- this would be his idea of heaven! With his youth and athletic agility, he would undoubtedly also make a great mouser for his new owner.
How wonderful it would be if his special someone would come and take him home, while there is still some seasonal sunshine to bask in- and not just through a window…
Shelter Wish List
We are running very low on three essential supplies at the shelter: 13 gallon garbage bags; paper towels, and clay-type litter. We would be very grateful to receive any donations of these items. Thank you for caring.

We have wonderful new “L.A.B.s” (Loveable, affectionate beachdogs) !
This past week, we got in some great new dogs at the shelter- mostly labs and lab mixes. We always enjoy these dogs, as they are, without exception, some of the nicest and most family-friendly pooches around.
We have labs in the three traditional flavors: chocolate, vanilla, and licorice. Both buff boys and pretty, sweet girls. All waiting, with tails wagging, to meet their new best human friends. One of the new dogs, John, has to be described as a “Lab wannabe””. He is black, but much smaller than a traditional lab and has a docked tail- maybe in fact an interesting mix like lab/terrier/beagle? His heritage is anyone’s guess, but he seems to also have the wonderful lab temperment and should make a nice, easy-going companion.
There is still some great summer and fall weather ahead- a perfect time to adopt a new dog with which to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. It is hard to be a dedicated couch potato when one has a dog with big brown eyes just pleading to go for a walk or to the beach. Come and see this new group of dogs and give one of them a loving forever home- a win-win for everyone!
Scottish Fold kittens looking for a special person
In 1961, a shepherd in Scotland noticed that a kitten at the farm where he worked had ears which, instead of being upright, folded forward. The shepherd brought home a kitten from a subsequent litter that also had folded ears, and eventually started a recognized breed of folded-eared cats dubbed “Scottish Folds”.
Sara and Charlotte are Fold mix sisters, and as is typical in Fold litters, Sara has the fold characteristic, while Charlotte has traditional upright ears. These two bright calico beauties are on the shy side, but would thrive in a quiet home, especially if adopted together. They are very bonded to each other, but enjoy human contact as well.
Because of their farm background, Folds can be very good hunters. As pets, they tend to be “one person” cats, and Sara and Charlotte are probably true to this nature. They are just waiting for their special “one person” to come along- someone who will appreciate their beauty and quiet, sweet dispositions.
