Young Sammy is losing his Mojo
When this charming gray and white guy first hit the kitty playroom, he was pretty much “full of himself”. He was brought in by his elderly owner who could no longer care for him, and while it was apparent that he was unhappy away from home, he tried to make the best of it.
He introduced himself to the other cats, because he is a very social guy by nature. Some of the adult cats liked him; some hissed at him. But he got along great with the kittens in the room, playing and romping with them for hours on end.

Sammy has been with us at the shelter for over a month now, and he is losing his spirit. He no longer tries to play as much, and seems too “down” to even sit in the sunny windows, which was also one of his favorite pastimes.
Now, he spends a lot of time sleeping, or isolating himself in one of the cubicles in the kitty condos. Sadly, it would seem that Sammy, who was once so full of fun and mischief, is losing his Mojo…
This young cat would be delighted to once again be in a home. He would be thrilled to be able to have an “indoor/outdoor” home and a person of his own- an active family would be wonderful, he says!
It is sad to see this once-happy guy so depressed. . He needs to get out in the sunshine again and to have someone to love him.
Ozzie’s best friend had to leave him for Iraq
Add this nice young Rottweiler/lab mix to the list of dogs that have lost their homes in the past few years when their owners had to leave for war. Ozzie’s owner was young and energetic, just like Ozzie, and they had a good life together until the young man had to leave to serve his country.

Now Ozzie is looking for a new best friend, one who will love his sweet and exuberant nature and spend time with him. No, he doesn’t have picture perfect manners- he is too young for such expectations. What he does have is intelligence, a loving personality and a sincere willingness to learn.
He wants to please, and be loved and to give love again in return. His soldier owner will be gone too long for him to wait- he needs someone now.

Many thanks to Cheri and Blaine Walker of the 42nd Street Café for their consistent contributions to our community. The South Pacific County Humane Society was the beneficiary of the March-long raffle and the Tuesday-night 10% donation of the restaurant’s profits, a total of over $900. We would also like to thank Mike Litawa of the Breakers for contributing the two wonderful raffle prizes: two nights at the Inn at the Breakers with a bottle of Flying Dutchman Wine, won by Diane Marshall of Long Beach; and two nights at the Inn at Spanish Head and a Flying Dutchman Winery Barrel Tasting with owner Richard Cutler, won by Kelly Foster of Olympia.
All of us at the Shelter–Board, staff, volunteers, and furballs–are most grateful for the generosity of Cheri, Blaine, and the Fools for Flavor at the 42nd Street Cafe.

Little Coral asks: it’s been two months. Isn’t there someone for me?
Several weeks ago, we featured this nice young Plott Hound mix in the column, hoping as always, to find her a home. Unfortunately, her “stay” with us is now going on two months, and all she has seen is other lucky dogs being taken into loving homes.

Coral is very quiet and is not known to make the well-known “hound sounds”. She is affectionate, and you can see how wonderfully pleased she is when someone takes the time to give her attention.
She is a trim and athletic medium-sized dog that is well-behaved, knows basic commands, and walks well on a leash. We have taken her, (on a leash of course!) around our shelter cats, and she seems very “interested” in them, and would probably chase cats if allowed to do so.
Coral would make a fine companion for a single person or couple. Please come and see this lonely girl and maybe you can be the one to change her luck around. All she wants is a chance to show someone how much love she has to offer.
Simon the Snowshoe
This striking cat is a Snowshoe Siamese mix, a breed that first appeared in the United States in the 60’s. They are a cross between a Siamese and American Shorthair cat, and are known to be a breed with more charisma than the average feline.

Simon is true to his breed in that he possesses a love for people, and is very intelligent and interested in everything. Snowshoes can be the ideal cat for people who like to spend a lot of time with their feline companions, and who appreciate their loyalty and sweet temperaments.
This pretty boy would love to be the center of attention, and would especially enjoy being an “only child” in a household where he could fully share his love and playful nature.
Garage sale coming soon!!!

We are starting in earnest to collect items for our upcoming Memorial Day garage sale, and are asking our supporters to look around for good items to donate to us for the sale.
This sale will be one of our most important fundraisers of the year, and is vital for the support of the needy animals at the shelter.
Please call the shelter at 360-642-1180 or view our page on this event for more details.
