Pet Report By Cory McKeown
Right now, our shelter is “bursting at the seams” with dogs and cats, all anxious to find their loving “forever homes”. We have an amazing assortment of adorable kittens in all colors and coat patterns- very playful and affectionate. And we are still running our “two-fer” special on kitties- a great opportunity to get a pair of cats at a great price!
We also have a great selection of some very nice dogs- especially if you are looking for a lab mix. “Susie “is a young black lab mix with a very sweet nature and would probably make a wonderful family dog. “Lilly” is a shy young “pittie mix” that really would blossom with a patient and loving owner willing to help her overcome her fears. Sadly, shy dogs like her can often linger in shelters for a long time until they are rescued by someone willing to invest the time in them needed to turn their lives around.
These are just a few of the dogs we have for adoption, and you and your family can come and see all of them at our shelter open house this Saturday from 11am to 3pm. There will be refreshments, and the drawing for our great yearly raffle will be at noon. If you purchased any of our raffle tickets, this could be your lucky day!
On Sunday, October 28, we are having a “Howl-O-Ween” pet photo and pet costume contest at the Veteran’s Park in downtown Long Beach, behind the police station. If the weather is bad, the event will be held at the Depot building, just North of Dennis Company. This promises to be a great event for all members of the family- even the family cats and pooches. The activities will be from 12 pm-5 pm, and pet photos will be from 2-5 pm.
We really need to have some good pet adoptions right now at the shelter. Any pets that find their way to your loving home will make room for more homeless dogs and cats- please bring the family and support your no-kill shelter. The critters need your help now more than ever!
